This is the most exciting Leslie Here blog post YET! And that is because this post is accompanied by my very FIRST YouTube video!
I may be more excited than anyone else is…
BUT I had so much fun recording & editing my first impressions on this new Maybelline SuperStay Full Coverage Foundation! It would mean so much to me if you would check out that video, possibly subscribe if you wannu – you know, all the things the YouTubers say. Watch it here and keep reading below for my usual lesliehere.com review!
The new SuperStay Full Coverage Foundation from Maybelline is apparently a re-launch of an older version (I have never tried this older version and have no input on their comparison. But everyone else has feelings that they are not they same.)
It is listed at $11.99 for the standard 1 oz, and is available in 16 shades – only 10 at Ulta currently.
And good luck trying to pick your shade up in store. I got the wrong color at first (did you watch my video?!) and when I went to pick up a lighter shade, every single one was open, and disgusting. This is a NEW foundation! How were they all already disgusting?! (Also good luck trying to get this online right now at Ulta – there are like two shades left!)
Let’s just say 130 – Buff Beige seemed like it was going to be much lighter and pinker than it really was. (Did I mention there’s a video? You can see how pale I am in the video) It doesn’t seem to oxidize after application though, so that’s good.
This foundation “delivers 24-hour wear for concentrated coverage” and a flawless finish that doesn’t fade or shift all day.“
- Full-coverage foundation with a seamless finish
- Evens out, camouflages, and enhances (…?)
- Minimizes the appearance of flaws and imperfections
- Glides onto skin for smooth and breathable wear
There is no SPF. BUT IT COMES IN A PUMP!
I had no issues or differences applying this foundation with either a damp sponge or a buffing foundation brush. It was very easy to blend out with no patchiness or brush strokes. It dries to a satin matte, and still needs to be set – or your powders on top will be skippy. I was able to get a high amount of coverage out of a ‘breathable’ layer of product.
Let me just get this out of the way here. This is not 24 hour wear. This is no where close to 24 hour wear. (I guess in its defense, the bottle says UP TO 24 hours. That could be one and one half hour for all we know)
It did however look very nice for a very long period of time. And I think it depends on if you set it with powder or not. In my actual wear of the product out n about, I set with NYX Set it Don’t Fret It and it wore pretty well. I was only a little shiny and there was minimal fading of any kind throughout the day. It DOES however…look a little makeupy ; and does enhance texture. It is a breathable, light layer, sure. But it definitely looks like makeup. Makeup that wore well – but everyone knows you have makeup on.
What I found really strange was on the day I mixed it with my Estee Lauder Double Wear (a notoriously matte and long lasting foundation). It is one of my go to mix-ins because I have a way too light shade, and at first it was GORGEOUS. But my god was I shiny by the end of the day! Like it was pretty bad..
All shininess aside, there was only a little bit of sliding around, and mostly around my nose, where I get extra oily anyway.
I think the oiliness myself and others are getting is due to the high levels of silicones in this foundation – which are supposed to help smooth the skin for a more flawless looking finish…but doesn’t play nice with natural face oils. While the foundation does boast to be ‘oil free’, that does not always mean it will keep YOU oil free. It TYPICALLY means it will not clog your pores. Just a lil tip.
Compared to some recent high end foundations that really disappointed me for their price, this one does perform well for only $12. That being said, there is much to improve on. There are a ton of silicones in the formula, which do not really mesh well with oils in the skin. So to even pretend that it would last 24 hours on facial skin with that much silicone is a joke. And while it does feel lightweight and breathable, it does not look very effortless and lightweight.
I’m a little on the fence about this one still, but simply because the shade is 100% incorrect for me, I will be returning it unfortunately.
**Bonus Minis – some final thoughts from product also featured in the video!**
Maybelline Total Temptation Eyebrow Definer Pencil – This pencil is pretty so-so. It is only $8 bucks, but NYX options are way better. If you have a lot to fill in, and not a whole lot of hairs, this will be way too patchy for you.
Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara – I really like this mascara! It stays put really well considering it is not waterproof! Like, my makeup remover even has a bit of difficulty. The wand is a bit fluffier, so if you have smaller eyes you may have trouble getting it all over. And it definitely has a scent to it. Why the round table felt the need to add fragrance to a mascara, we may never know. But here we are.
